6 Mid Winter Self Care Tips

Personal Notes

Today I wanted to share with you my current top 6 Mid Winter Self Care tips that make sure to care for your mind, body, soul, and foster your spirituality.

January & February are cold months in mid winter right after the holidays that call for a touch more of self care, especially if we’ve neglected ourselves during the holidays.

This is our chance to start again.

mind

1. Rest, Reflect & Refresh.

After the holiday season, make sure to take care of your mind by taking time to focus on yourself and your own dreams. This can be as simple as daydreaming over a cup of coffee or tea. You can also journaling your reflections and plan our your dreams in writing, even if it is grandiose, we all need dreams to move towards.

2. Nourish your body with warm soups and vegetables.

Not only do they fill you up, but they also have a special way of warming our hearts down to our toes. I like to cook soups like coconut curry, our family’s chicken soup, corn chowder and my favorite vegan chili. Follow me over on Pinterest to see what else I like to cook during mid winter.

3. Take care of your skin and nails during this time of year.

Our skin tends to be extremely dry in the cold months. Pay special attention to your nails, they can become brittle and cuticles can become cracked and dry as the biting cold wind. If we aren’t careful when grooming our nails infections from picking and ripping at your skin can arise and cause more trouble than they are worth. A close friend of mine was a nail biter and skin ripper, they tore up their fingers so bad that their digits swelled up to the point where they had to go to urgent care to get their fingers lanced and start a course of medication for the infection. So, be sure to carry clippers and cuticle cream or lotion with you so you can care for your nails at a moments notice. Same goes for your toes.

soul

4. Pick up a new book that relates to one of your goals.

Weather you buy, borrow, or listen to a book, just be sure to immerse yourself within its pages. And remember you don’t always have to buy a book. I am borrowing my book list from the library this year through the app Libby. I like to listen to my books while I’m on a walk, and it ended up taking me six day’s to finish my first book of the year. So I highly recommend utilizing audio books on any platform.

5. Find ways to give back

Donate seasonal clothing items and blankets you don’t use anymore to shelters. If you’re not sure where to find your local shelters, you can always donate these items to a church or food pantry. There you can be sure that your items will make it to those in need. Still not sure? You can always call your local police station on their non emergency line and ask them for shelter locations to donate to.

spirituality

6. Connect with nature

Find ways to connect to nature even though its cold outside. We tend to be cozy little hermits during mid winter, move much less like hibernating bears, and don’t go outside unless its necessary. If you are feeling a little stir crazy or just plain uninspired during this time of year, reconnect with nature as much as you can. Bundle up and go for a quick walk around the block, tend to your indoor plants, and practice yoga in a place where you can look outside.

I hope that these 6 Mid Winter Self Care Tips help you feel rooted and connected with your mind, body, soul, and foster your spirituality. Be sure to take care of yourself in whatever way works for you during the cold months. I’d love to hear in the comments below what you do to practice self care during mid winter.
