Weekly Spirituality Tip: Practice Self Reliance. Have faith and confidence in your ability to care for yourself all by yourself.

By practicing self reliance and having the faith and confidence in your ability to care for yourself all by yourself is something that only you can give yourself. People can take care of you, but you get a different feeling when it comes to “adulting” all by yourself. You are able to care for yourself, mentally, physically, spiritually and in reality! You already have the ability, all you need to do is consciously put forth the effort to practice self reliance and self care.

Practicing Self Reliance comes easy to some and can be debilitating for others. I have always been somewhere in between, but there are days, usually when depression or anxiety has crept in, where I can’t make any decision and its a struggle to get out of bed. Those are the days where it is most important that I practice self reliance and have faith in my ability to care for myself all by myself.

I was loosing too many hours and sometimes whole days, so I created a laminated list of things that I needed to do that I could check off and do mindlessly when I was crippled with depression or anxiety. If that list was the only thing that I accomplished that day, it was still a good day. I found that this helped me get going and even got me out of whatever funk I was in to start with. Looking back at the end of the day and realizing that I was able to care for myself, by myself and that I was actually self-reliant even though it didn’t feel like it, is an amazing feeling that boosts my confidence and makes me immediately feel like nothing can get me down.
