Autumn Infused Oil for Lammas & Lughnasadh

Want something extra special for Lammas & Lughnasadh? Try a new perfume or body oil to heighten your sense of smell. This DIY Lammas & Lughnasadh Oil blend can be used as a perfume or body oil to get you ready for the sabbat with notes of rose, mint, chamomile, sandalwood, calendula and basil. This oil is also great for your skin.

The sabbat festival Lammas & Lughnasadh is observed August 1st to celebrate the Sun God Lugh and signal the beginning of the Harvest Season. This festival is meant to gather the community and your family for a time of thanksgiving as you enjoy the bounty of the First Harvest. We will be infusing a carrier oil with dried herbs for this DIY Lammas & Lughnasadh Infused Oil. This means soaking the herb in oil for 2-6 weeks in a dark cool place and then strain out the herbs and its ready for use. Lets get to know what you’re going to be using today to make your own Lammas & Lughnasadh Infused Oil.

Grapeseed oil is a great carrier oil for cosmetics because it does wonders for your skin. It contains antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties to treat acne, tightens oily skin, moisturizes, and is a great anti-wrinkle serum. Basil is antibacterial, tightens and tones your skin, and calms acne prone skin. Calendula in an anti-fungal, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial. Chamomile is an anti-inflammatory, and relaxant. Rose Hips are anti-inflammatory, and act as an astringent to tighten and tone your skin. Mint is an antiseptic and soothes itchy skin. Sandalwood is anti-bacterial, anti-aging, and moisturizing for dry skin.

Lammas & Lughnasadh Infused Oil

Tools:

Ingredients:
enough Carrier Oil of your choice to cover your herbs (I used grapeseed oil)
Basil (dried)
Calendula (dried)
Chamomile (dried)
Rose Hips or petals (dried)
Mint (dried)
Sandalwood (dried)

Directions:

Start by putting all of the dried herbs except for mint and sandalwood into your jar and crushing them with your spoon or with a pestle. Smell your dried mixture and add any additional herbs if desired. Then slowly add small amounts of mint and sandalwood until you have reached your desired scent. If you are using essential oils, start with 1-2 drops and work your way up to your desired scent. Mint and Sandalwood can be overpowering so go slow.

Once you have reached your desired scent cover the herbs with enough Grapeseed Oil to have about an inch of oil above the herbs. Cap the jar, label it with today’s date and the date that is 4 weeks from now. Then shake the jar and place it in a dark place for 2-6 weeks. You can check your oil for potency anytime after two weeks.

2-6 Weeks Later…

Get the bottle or container that you want to store your oil in, a funnel, and fine mesh strainer or a cheese cloth. Place the funnel in the bottle and strain out the herbs with a fine mesh strainer or a cheese cloth. Then squeeze out the remaining oil from the herbs with a spoon if you are using a mesh strainer or your hands if you are using a cheese cloth. Cap your bottle and label your oil with the name and date it was bottled (today).

I like to use bottles with eye droppers or bottles that have a small opening so I don’t pour out too much oil on accident. You are now ready to use your Lammas & Lughnasadh Infused Oil as a perfume, body oil, or massage oil with your partner.
